Overview
Boomkey is a macOS keyboard layout corrector distributed directly from this website. Privacy is a core design principle: the application processes all text locally on your Mac and does not transmit keystrokes, typed content, or usage data to any server.
Data We Do Not Collect
Boomkey itself does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. Specifically:
- No keystrokes are logged or recorded
- No text content is stored beyond the in-memory current-word buffer
- No analytics, crash reporting, or telemetry is collected
- No user accounts are required
- No advertising or tracking identifiers are used
Accessibility Permission
Boomkey requires the macOS Accessibility permission to read keyboard input and perform text corrections. This permission is used solely for the application's core functionality. The typing buffer holds only the current word and is cleared after each correction.
Clipboard
When using hotkey mode (double Shift), Boomkey temporarily uses the system clipboard to perform text replacement. Your original clipboard content is automatically restored after the correction completes.
Purchases and Payment Data
Pro license purchases are processed by Paddle.com Market Limited (“Paddle”), our Merchant of Record. Paddle handles checkout, payment processing, billing, tax collection, invoicing, and fraud prevention. When you purchase a Pro license, Paddle collects:
- Your name and billing address
- Your email address
- Payment method details (card, PayPal, etc.)
- The IP address and country used for the transaction
We receive from Paddle only the information needed to issue, verify, and support your license: your email address, country, order identifier, and license key. We do not receive or store full payment card details. Paddle's processing of your data is governed by Paddle's Privacy Notice.
License Verification
If you activate a Pro license, the application contacts our licensing endpoint to validate the license key you entered. The request contains the license key and a non-identifying machine fingerprint used to bind the license to your device, as permitted by these terms. No keystrokes or typed content are transmitted.
Update Checks
The direct download version periodically checks for new versions by fetching a static version manifest from our website. This request contains only standard HTTP metadata (your IP address and user agent, which are not stored by us beyond standard server logs) and does not transmit any information about how you use the application.
Apple Notarization
The application is code-signed and notarized by Apple. When you first launch the app, macOS may perform a one-time check with Apple's servers. This is a standard macOS security feature and is not controlled by us. See Apple's privacy policy for details.
Third-Party Services
Boomkey uses the following third-party services, each for a narrow, clearly defined purpose:
- Paddle - payments, billing, tax, invoicing
- Apple - code signing and notarization
- Resend - transactional email delivery for license keys
- Sparkle - macOS update framework for version check requests
We do not use any analytics, advertising, or behavioral-tracking services.
Data Retention
We retain license and order records (email, order ID, license key, country) for as long as the license is active and for the period required to meet tax, accounting, and legal obligations. Standard web server logs are retained for up to 90 days for security and troubleshooting.
Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict processing. To exercise these rights, contact us via the support page. For data held by Paddle (such as billing records), contact Paddle directly using the procedures in their privacy notice.
International Transfers
Paddle may process data outside your country of residence. Paddle maintains appropriate safeguards for such transfers, as described in its privacy notice.
Children
Boomkey is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes in the application or legal requirements. The effective date above will be updated when we do so.
